As for WW2- I grew up admiring "The Good War". I was bombarded with the propaganda. But the truth was always there- lurking just out of sight.
When I learned years later that the Americans had actually broken the Japanese codes BEFORE the attack on Pearl Harbor, I wondered how the attack could have occurred in the first place.
I was told that "there were so many details, the big picture just got lost amid the little on the floor."
Just like NASA lost all that technology that got us to the moon...
