The Deepest Operatives of the Deep Church (You Can't Handle The Truth!)
"When you see a night lit with an unknown light..."
Our Lady of Fatima had promised that "...The war is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse war will break out during the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God..."
Most think that Our Lady was referring to WW1 and WW2, with WW1 being the war that was going to end and WW2 the war that broke out during the reign of Pius XI. Of course, what we know as WW2 started in September of 1939 shortly after the commencement of the pontificate of Pius XII. For years, Fatima apologists have argued the Anschluss of Austria in March 1938, what the Germans laughingly call the Blumenkrieg, was the actual start of WW2, which followed just weeks after the Great Red Night of January 25th of that same year.
This Wolf has come to believe that, instead of WW1 and WW2, Our Lady was referring to two broader wars, the first which began in 1848, and ended in 1929. Included in this period are the Revolutions of 1848, the "Italian Civil War", the Franco-Prussian War, World War One, the Bolshevik Revolution, and, finally, the Cristero revolt in Mexico, a very intense civil war from 1926 to 1929 very few Americans know much about. At the height of the Cristero War, in June 1929, peace had finally broken out across much of the world. Conflict was at the lowest ebb in centuries. On June 13th, 1929, Our Lady of Fatima appeared in spectacular fashion to St Sr Lucia, a novitiate of the Dorotheans, at Tuy, Spain, during a Midnight Holy Hour in the chapel, and told her that "The moment has come when God asks the Holy Father to make, in union with all the bishops of the world, the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart". Alas, just days later, on June 21st, American ambassador Dwight Morrow would preside over an "agreement" between the Vatican and the Mexican government, which in essence was a betrayal of the Cristeros by Pius XI. One can suspect that Heaven was profoundly displeased, as the Dogs of War could again be heard howling. That howling would first become a growl in September 1931, when Japan launched an all-out invasion of Manchuria, the first of a series of conflicts that would grow to become World War II.
Our Lady had been spurned, and a worse war was now in store. But that war was not merely going to be a military conflict between nations, devastating though that was going to be. Rather, this war was going to be against Altar and Throne, Home and Hearth, Motherhood and Fatherhood, and against Truth itself. This was a war that had been planned in the pit of hell since Our Lord Jesus Christ overthrew the Kingdom of Satan and Darkness upon the Wood of the Cross, shortly after having established the New and Eternal Covenant. God had given the Popes a chance to repent of their cooperation with the Revolutions of 1776 and 1789, and to command the Bishops to perform a simple liturgical ceremony. The Popes chose, rather, to continue their part in the Great Plan to destroy the Eternal Sacrifice and the Apostolic Succession.
The Great Plan would have several distinct phases to destroy the Apostolic Church. The groundwork had already been laid. Vatican I had defined the Superpopes, who insisted upon the absolute submission and obedience of all. Papal power was exaggerated to the point where every act of the Pontiff was considered as inspired by the Holy Ghost. The simple faithful had long been told that the pope must be holy simply because he was the pope. That alone sufficed.
The First Phase- Distraction and Dissimulation
In 1939, while the world was focused on the brewing conflict in Europe, the Catholic hierarchy began injecting liberalism into the seminaries. The first salvo against the bastions of Catholic Tradition was Divino afflante Spiritu, which would henceforth revolutionize Biblical exegesis by applying "ancient manuscripts" rather than the Latin Vulgate to new translations of scripture into vernacular languages. Pius XII obviously had a lot of faith in the "historical-critical method", which applied the scientific method, archaeological style, to interpretation and translation. (Did the papacy have some sort of "litmus paper" to ascertain the veracity of "ancient manuscripts", or were there no liars and scoundrels before the 3rd Century?) In SERTUM LAETITIAE, Pius XII would lavish praise on that peculiar institution, the American Catholic Church, and especially Bishop John Carroll. In SAECULO EXEUNTE OCTAVO, to the Portuguese people, after 51 vomitings of word salad, Our Lady of Fatima is finally given one sentence in the closing remarks. In his 1944 Christmas message, Pius XII thinks the time has come for the American Experiment to go Global: "In such a psychological atmosphere, is it to be wondered at if the tendency towards democracy is capturing the peoples and winning a large measure of consent and support from those who hope to play a more efficient part in the destinies of individuals and of society?" And in November 1947, Pius XII would unleash Sacramentum Ordinis, overturning centuries of thought concerning the requirements for the validity of Holy Orders. Also in November 1947, Pius XII had published the epochal Mediator Dei, which stated the following: "The use of the Latin language, customary in a considerable portion of the Church, is a manifest and beautiful sign of unity, as well as an effective antidote for any corruption of doctrinal truth. In spite of this, the use of the mother tongue in connection with several of the rites may be of much advantage to the people." Now, Pius X had permitted vernacular in certain parts of the Mass in various places in what would become Yugoslavia in 1906, and Pius XI had given a wider indult to Bavaria in 1929 (to accommodate the liturgical experiments there), but now the floodgates were about to be opened.
The Second Phase: The Goldfish Bowl
On the 28th of May, 1948, Pope Pius XII created the Grand Architect of the "Liturgical Reform, Annibale Bugnini, and placed him in charge of a Commission for Liturgical Reform. After "revising" the Easter Vigil for 1951, by 1955 this body had "revised" the rest of Holy Week, suppressed various octaves and vigils, as well as some feast days, such as St John at the Laterin Gate. Changes included deletion of prayers and ceremonies, introduction of the vernacular, and alterations of the Divine Office. The sum total of all this chicanery is priests and sacristans were getting accustomed to "the latest" coming out of Rome, while the rank and file were introduced to fluidity in what was considered inalterable. The times they were a changin'. Years ago, Michael Davies, groundbreaking author and critic of the "liturgical reform" in the 1970's wrote a little pamphlet called "The Goldfish Bowl", where he postulated that people become liberal heretics incrementally, until they are spiritually dead, akin to goldfish killed in water slowly being heated by a flame. That was certainly happening in the 1950's. The mitigation of the venerable Midnight Communion Fast to three hours and the introduction of Evening Masses led many to conclude that the Church could accommodate the liturgy, and perhaps even theology, to changing times. On June 6th, 1960 Fr Bugnini was named secretary of the Pontifical Preparatory Commission on the Liturgy for the upcoming Vatican II.
The Third Phase: The Coming Out Party
Nobody would argue that Vatican II was the occasion for the triumph of liberalism within the Church. Fr Ratzinger would call the Council a "Counter Syllabus of Errors" and Cardinal Suenens said of the Council that it was "The French Revolution in the Church". No argument here. At the Council Tradition was put on the defensive, a position it has held ever since, being forced to yield ground every year to the onslaughts of the progressives. Vatican II opened the floodgates not merely for "reform", but for every species of drivel and heresy masquerading as insightful theology. Needless to say, the disreputable quickly jumped aboard, arguing for every absurdity under the umbrella of "The Spirit of Vatican II", the new catchphrase of the Liberal Agenda. And after the Council Anabale Bugnini was busy with his liturgy committee and "Protestant Observers" formulating a "New Mass", while meanwhile Pope Paul was allowing all manner of "Liturgical Experimentation" from vernacular Masses to truncated forms eliminating the Prayers at the foot of the Altar and the Leonine Prayers. A most troubling change was the insertion of the words "for all" instead of "for many" when the Consecration of the Precious Blood of the Roman Canon was recited. Some authors claimed this made the consecration, and, hence, the Mass, invalid.
The Fourth Phase: Weapons of Mass Destruction
All the other foibles and mischief of the popes in the 20th and 21st centuries pales with the act of Paul VI in foisting the dastardly "Novus Ordo" Mass on the Catholic World. All the bombs dropped since the days of the Wright Brothers combined did not produce nearly the catastrophe this single act did. Tens of thousands of priests left the church in utter bewilderment and confusion- many committing suicide- to be replaced by flaming liberal hippie celebrants that drowned their congregations in an ocean of luv. Organs, Gregorian Chant, and solemnity were out. Guitars, Kumbaya, and festivity now became the order of the day. Every other week, Aunt Gertrude would clutch her pearls, exclaiming "Would you believe it? The priest was dressed as a clown!" or some other hyperbole. When it came to shocking sacrilege and theatrics, the liberals vied with each other in "can you top this?" Some "liturgies" were little less than burlesque parlors. A fringe Dominican "theologian" wrote a book entitled "Whee, whee, whee! All the way Home."
While much of this seemed shocking, extemporaneous, and random, all had been carefully planned. The result, as anticipated, was the faith of millions was shattered. The feminists and hedonists, at first at least, welcomed this revolution with open arms. Predictably, various shades of "resistance" began to coalesce. Many priests tried to put the proverbial lipstick on the pig and dress up the Novus Ordo to make it look as "Catholic" as possible. All too few rejected it outright. Unfortunately, the "Ultramontanes", especially Pius X, Pius XI, and Pius XII had done their work very well. Nobody wanted to be "against the pope", not even those completely outraged by the flagrant heresy, blasphemy, and sacrilege all around them.
The time had come to roll out the well-planned controlled opposition. In the same manner that Donald Trump had been recycled from a Pro-Abortion Democrat into the "Greatest Republican Pro-Life President", the Kabal transformed the rather liberal Bearded One from Equatorial Afrika into the staunchly Tridentine Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. He would found the "Society of St Pius X" to "restore all things in Christ", while meanwhile shaking his fist at the "reforms" of Pope Paul VI. But early on he apparently said some things that were off the reservation, and reported to the Vatican to get his marching orders. From that point on, the party line of the SSPX emerged. Vatican II was the sum of all evils, while everything done before the Council was conceived by the Angelic Pastors Pius X, Pius XI, and Pius XII, who were always infallible and beyond question. Meanwhile, the greatest sins a "Traditional Catholic" could harbor were "Sedevacatism" (the belief the Pope had become heretical and consequently abjured his office) and "Feenyism" (the belief there is no such thing as "Baptism of Desire" or indomitable ignorance- also known as the doctrine of the "noble pagan). This Wolf does suspect that if the SSPX had put just half as much energy into promoting devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and Christian modesty, today might be much different. But, alas, one must guard against "apparition mania" and apparently more souls were in hell for "dressing amish" than for sins of impurity. At least, that is what the Party Line suggested. Archbishop Lefebvre would adapt the highly problematic 1962 Missal of Good Pope John for their liturgies, and any suggestion it was less than ideal was an offense against the Angelic Pastors.
The Fifth Phase: The Ultramontanes Strike Back!
After the death of Pope Paul VI, and the Magnificent Distraction of the 33 days of the Pontificate of John Paul I, who was obviously murdered, (Oh, but he was angelic. He was going to undo Vatican II, consecrate Russia, and reform the Vatican Bank... This is how the Pederasts dress up the Satanic Vatican... it's how they roll...), John Paul II arrived on the scene. Although another flaming liberal train wreck, he kept his act frightfully conservative that first year or so. No hobnobbing with Protestant Prelates. No problematic statements concerning the Jews. Instead, it was time for the Big Show in Poland, where Lech Valenza was going to bring Solidarity to the Danzig Corridor. Bolshevism would just never be the same. By 1990 the myth would be born that John Paul II and Ronald Reagan, with a little help from Maggie Thatcher, would rid the world of the Evil Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which was decisively defeated by the US Hockey team in the 1982 Winter Olympics. John Paul II the Great was born.
Meanwhile, the world of Traditional Catholicism was coalescing. But too many damned "Independent Chapels" were emerging, with priests like Fr James Wathan criticizing both the party line and the Angelic Pastors. The solution would be a massive schism within the Controlled Opposition. In April 1983, after some years of dissension, Fr Clarence Kelly and his Evil Associates were banished from the Society of St Pius X and immediately coalesced to form the Society of St Pius V (One good Angelic Pius deserves another) which officially embraced both Sedevacantism and Feenyism. The SSPV quickly splintered as several of the Priests became consecrated bishops by dubious "Thuc Line" and "Old Catholic" prelates, and each essentially became his own pope who was going to save the church. Just what God and Our Lady of Fatima needed.
Concurrently, Pope John Paul II was becoming increasingly liberal. The summit of his chicanery were the "ecumenical prayer gatherings" which culminated with the Travesty at Assisi in October 1986. Archbishop Lefebvre declared all-out war, and even questioned if this man could even be the pope. He railed against the Conciliar Church, the New Mass, Vatican II, and the corruption of the episcopate, which were now in full view. (He never did hint on the Vatican's sodomy problem, a very telling omission.) The ongoing tussle between Archbishop Lefebvre and the Vatican, fully documented by Michael Davies, culminated in the June 1988 consecration of four bishops by Archbishop Lefebvre and Bishop Antônio de Castro Mayer in June 1988. Following hard on the heels of this "schism" was the Moto Proprio "Ecclesia Dei" and the formation of the last important group of Controlled Opposition, the Fraternal Society of St Peter.
The 6th Phase: The Great Silent Treatment
Well, Archbishop Lefebvre had gone and done it. He had consecrated bishops without a papal mandate and inaugurated the Great Schism. And so the same church that welcomed the Sodomitical Archbishop of Canterbury to give homilies in Rome excoriated anybody that attended any SSPX liturgy as the Excommunicated, the Separated, the Unclean, and the Pariah Extraordinaire. Those who "with the pope" shunned anybody associated with the SSPX as though Traditional Catholicism was some sort of communicable disease. In most American dioceses, nobody wanted to be associated with "those people", who were clearly not welcome at any liturgical function. Had an Inquisition been in progress, doubtless several of the heads of these people would have been on the chopping block.
Meanwhile, the fractionalization and dissension in Traditional Catholicism continued apace. Michael Matt, editor of the largest Traditional Publication, the Remnant, quipped that if ten Traditional Catholics were asked to form a firing squad against the enemies of Holy Mother Church, they would make a circle. Brutal lawsuits, denunciations of priests from pulpits, banishment of persons unwilling to toe the party line, families drifting from venue to venue, and defections of priests were the order of the day. Trying to build any sort of community life or engaging in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy was like trying to build a house during a bombing raid. But in spite of all, the movement as a whole persevered while the Conciliar Church continued to disintegrate.
The 7th Phase: Perestroika and Glasnost
The same year the Vatican released the dubious "3rd Secret of Fatima", the SSPX officially made a Pilgrimage to Rome for the "Year of the Jubilee of Mercy". As the fears of a "Y2K" apocalypse subsided, hopes of a "reconciliation" between Rome and the SSPX grew. After suddenly finding an affinity for Bishop Fellay and the SSPX, the Evil Conciliar Church initiated what were known as the "Doctrinal Discussions" which, alas, were held entirely in secret, behind closed doors. (This Wolf suspects that, at the very least, they were feasting on Roast Beef and toasting Martinis to the latest triumph of the Great Plan, if not actually engaging in much more sordid stuff- you know- the kinds of things Alisha Owen testified to after being in the employ of Larry King of the Franklin Credit Union...) These secret meetings, naturally, led to all sorts of rumors. And the rumors that these meetings were actually some sort of negotiating process- probably a lot closer to the truth- were confirmed when Bishop Fellay laid out four conditions for the SSPX "collaborating" with Rome. This culminated in the famous Moto Proprio of Benedict XVI, Summorum Pontificum, which also laid out the conditions for the "Regularization" of the Traditional Rite of Mass, which he famously said was never abrogated, nor could be abrogated, by any papal legislation. (Apparently, the Peanut Gallery was not taking notes; witness the dutiful obedience to Pope Frantic's "Traditiones Custodies".) But this was not before the famous "Bishop Williamson Affair" which was obviously orchestrated by the Lamestream Media, the Vatican, and the SSPX (or perhaps you think it is just a cosmic coincidence the "interview" of Bishop Williamson concerning the Six Million was released just days after Pope Benedict "lifted the excommunications" of the SSPX Bishops?).
The result? Even more division, divisiveness, grandstanding, and confusion.
The 8th Phase: Traditional Ecumenism
As Catholics understood the Deposit of Faith less and less, the conviction grew that "one Traditional Mass is as good as another" and that "it is the Mass that matters". The validity of the "New Sacraments" would no longer be seriously questioned by the "faithful", nor would the concept of "Communicatio in Sacris". And so people would go to an SSPX Mass one week, and FSSP Mass the next, and an SSPV Mass right after that. After all, it is all about fellowship, meeting like-minded people, and community support. And long ago, the priests had lost their courage, integrity, and acumen. Our Lady of Fatima who? Just a Private Revelation, along with Akita, Garabandal, and the Divine Mercy. Gradually, these "Catholics" became no better than their peers in the 1970's, who knew very little of their Faith beyond the very basics. And now, as the world hovers on the precipice of multiple disasters, they are perilously ill-equipped to be Apostles of Our Lady, when such will be sorely needed. Instead, they argue about voting, whether Frantic is pope or not, whether Vatican II is a valid council, whether you can assist at a Mass of a priest who does, or who does not, commemorate the "Holy Father" in the canon. They spend the live long day posting comments and debating their peers on the latest shenanigans of the Vatican. They gravitate to the various Amen Corners- Taylor Marshall, Mike Church, Kennedy Hall, Tim Flanders, Michael Matt, or Peter Dimond. They listen breathlessly while Their Hero defines their reality for them in much the same way Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson define reality for millions.
Recently, it has come to this Wolf's attention that in the Diocesan Parish Church of All Souls, in Sanford (Orlando Diocese, Florida), by Bishop Tissier de Mallerais celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation and had a Mass on the Novus Ordo "Altar" during that fateful month of October 2023. No Tabernacle was in sight. Full permission of the local Bishop. The Bearded One would have been proud. Mission accomplished
God Help us.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. You are our Only Hope!
Wolf, you have said clearly enough that Mass said by each of the traditional priestly fraternities and diocesan indult masses are all mutually contradictory. I believe that you consider this to be so because of the differing assumptions regarding the validity of V2 "changes" and subtractions and alterations made to rites of ordination, both priestly and episcopal. Fr Gregory Hesse more or less stated that a combination of intent, form and matter, combined with a certain legitimate degree of benign latitudinarianism proper to Holy Mother Church preserved validity if not liceity in all renderings of the Mass both vetus and novus. In 2011 Pope BXVI returned the wording of the English NO to proper terms such as "for many" thereby correcting one of Fr Hesse' most acute doubts as to the validity of the NO in English as originally worded.
If this is not correct in your view then what, in your opinion, is the solution to this hot mess, at least as regards validity? I firmly believe that Our Lord, though doubtless VERY UNHAPPY, is pure unconstrained act (and how!), capable of bridging chasms of human making to permit ignorant goodwill to make forward progress notwithstanding. This is not to suggest He will be merciful to culpable clerics or the prideful refusal of Truth for the sake of human preference.
