As many know, on 21st January 1792, the French Revolutionaries executed Louis XVI. Pope Pius VI would shed a torrent of tears some six months later in Quare Lacrymae, where he decried that "the most Christian king Louis XVI has been condemned to death, and the sentence has been carried out."
First off, this Wolf realizes they did not have Internet in those days. They did not even have telegraphs. Still, allowing six months to elapse between the execution and the condemnation of it does seem oblique, to say the least. Moreover, this letter was written in a "secret consistory". Why?
But more to the point, was Louis XVI really "A Most Christian King"? PUH-LEASE.
This was the same Louis XVI that helped finance and even gave military support to the American Revolution, which he must have known was a thoroughly Freemasonic enterprise. None of the principles of the American Revolution were even remotely Catholic, yet Louis early on conceived a Freindship with many of the "Founding Fathers", especially the notorious Benjamin Franklin, whose "faith" would have appalled both Luther and Cramner.
Louis XVI also allowed the Masonic Lodges to absolutely flourish in his country. (These were the seed beds of the Revolution, which has been well documented elsewhere.) The Masonic Lodges were never even remotely Christian, let alone Catholic, despite all appearances to the contrary. (Albert Pike in his "Morals and Dogma", probably the most erudite Tome of Masonry, admits that, ultimately, Masonry worships Lucifer, the Light Bearer. "Doubt it not.")
Pius VI himself was quite tolerant of the antics of Father Carroll, ex-Jesuit who he elevated to the Seat of Baltimore as First Bishop of the United States. Carroll was an "Enlightened Liberal" who had a penchant for Vernacular Liturgies and allowed Protestants to "preach" from Catholic pulpits. He would have done Pope John Paul II proud.
The bottom line here is that Pius VI can protest all he wishes about the "martyrdom" of Louis XVI (and of course we can only hope the King died a most holy and happy death being executed as he was) but both he and Louis XVI helped spawn the very monster that engulfed France, and destroyed Altar and Throne.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. You are our only hope.
