Correction Wolf, the cradle of the Industrial Revolution was the British Isles where the protestantised landowners drove cottagers, crofters and other small scale rural dwellers off the common land by the simple expedient of enclosures and corrupt judges ready to hand down sentences of hanging or transportation to anyone foolhardy enough to resist or out of desperation "poach" to feed their families. It was the final stage after the robbery and plunder of monastic lands in Tudor times. No-one went to the smoke out of any other reason than dire necessity.
